Latest Email from Founder Jim Speicher
The devastation is too much to describe. Not here close to the school but downtown and in Jacmel. I am planning on having our cook open the kitchen and invite our kids to come and eat even though the school is closed.I have tried to contact our bank by internet with no success. I plan on sending someone to Jacmel today to see if they are still functioning. You will be able to wire funds if they are open for business. We can and will do this. I know most of the people at the hosanna church. I will have someone find out about the team. If there are relief funds available what I would do is find out the needs of our staff and then help them and the kids.
The best way to help our student body is to give them a free month or 2 from tuition. It covers every one and lets them use their tuition moneyat home. For January and Feb. it would take $4000 US.This email is the only way to communicate for me right now. It depends on my little generator and the signal strength from the satellite. If you don't hear from me don't worry. I am probably out of gas or signal is low. It peaks at night and is weak during the day. I think the phones may be working, not mine, I see some trying to use them and many bring their phones here when they hear the generator running to charge them up. I will be back here around noon if able to give you an update on the Bob Jones team and the bank.
